DaPoPo asserts that theatre is a vital craft. Its function is a political one: to advance knowledge of the human state. It is, moreover, a popular one. Theatre must enliven its audience, or: ‘the people’, not by lulling them into ignorant bliss, but by awakening them into knowledgeable discontent. And finally, it is a craft, and the hands-on work, searching for expressive means, is inherently poetic.
