So… What ELSE About Love?
DaPoPo at the Halifax Fringe Festival

DaPoPo Theatre presents a new musical revue, So… What ELSE About Love?, with and by Kristi Anderson, Amy Reitsma, and Garry Williams, at the Halifax Fringe Festival. The production team includes David Reid (keyboard), Gina Thornhill (stage manager), and Ryan Wilcox (lighting design).
Previous DaPoPo Fringe shows have included 13 Ways of Looking at a Madman, So… What About Love?, The Fear Project (Fringiest Fringe Award), and The Great After by Ali Richardson, co-presented with Villains Theatre. DaPoPo returns this year with a new musical revue, So… What ELSE About Love?
Reitsma, who is coming on board as the triple role of co-creator, performer and director, fresh off of assistant directing Frenchy's: The Thrift Musical, says: “Garry, Kristi, and I decided it would be fun to create a very loose ‘sequel’ to the original [co-created with Andrew Chandler in 2009]… focusing on new material and how love has changed in the 17 years since the original was written. New characters, new songs, new observations about love in all of its forms.”
“It’s not that it’s not about love, it’s just love on the fringes”, says Garry Williams, DaPoPo's Artistic Director, whose Beauty & the Beast is playing in Point Pleasant Park as part of SBTS's 2026 summer season. “What is mainstream love? Everyone’s journey, everyone’s experience is different, and we’re trying to shine some light into a few under-explored recesses.”
As the three friends have crossed into middle age, they face changes in their careers, relationships, and physiology. “Themes for this version include marriage, children, aging as an artist, priority changes, global changes, infertility, open relationships, drinking, late stage neurodivergence diagnosis,” says Reitsma. “It’s a deeply vulnerable and often hilarious process. Kind of like love in all its beautiful, messy forms.”
“What excites me about SWEAL”, says Kristi Anderson, "also terrifies me: writing about topics that are personal and often challenging for me to share. I feel that this production is an opportunity to self-reflect, to laugh, to cry but also, and perhaps most importantly, to celebrate the complexities of what it means to live and to love.”
Workshopped at last year’s Live-In Festival, the show features an upbeat score which mixes traditional musical comedy with notes of country, cabaret, and jazz. “We are writing new material,” Williams explains, “so Fringe will be a chance for us to try out this version of the show. That’s really what Fringe is for: creating opportunities for artists to express themselves with minimal overhead and take risks.”
